 :: Basic information

The zoo endeavors to provide all the essential basic facilities to the visitors and to make their visit an enriching experience. The following facilities are available in the zoo for the visitors:

  • Rest areas having sheds, sitting benches, green lawns and gardens.
  • Supply of cool drinking water at many points.
  • Catering facility by TTDC and Aavin Ice cream parlour.
  • Sitting benches under shady trees.
  • Walk path and hedges in front of enclosures.
  • Battery powered vehicles to go around the zoo and to the Lion safari.
  • Natural landscape with lawns and gardens.
  • Well maintained toilets at several places.
  • Interpretation sheds to educate people.
  • Guides and zoo interpretation by zoo club members.
  • Zoo school education programme for school children.
  • Easy approach by buses and trains from any part of city and suburbs.
  • Dustbins at several places.
  • Children's corner with a variety of play things.
  • Proper parking place for private vehicles.
  • TV screen at entrance showing wildlife documentary.
  • Trolleys for the physically challenged people and children are provided to go around the zoo.

 :: Rates

This zoo offers many attractions for zoo lovers. While maintaining high standards of cleanliness, facilities and attractions, the Forest Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, is charging a very nominal entry fee to benefit all wildlife lovers wanting to visit the zoo frequently. As per Government Order Ms. No. 136 dated 25.06.2002, the entry ticket rates are as:

1. Children below 5 years : No fee
2. Children (above 5 years and below 12     years) : Rs 10.00 (Ten only)
3. Adult : Rs 15.00 (Fifteen only )
4. (a) School Children ( Age 5 – 12 years )     from Government School and Aided     schools : Rs 2.00 (Two only)
    (b) School Children ( Age 5 – 12 years )     from Private Schools : Rs 10.00 (Ten only)

 :: Other Charges
1.Still Camera : Rs. 25.00 (Twenty Five only)
2.Handy Camera : Rs. 150.00 (One Hundred and fifty only)


To avoid inconvenience to the public in walking and watching the animals, private vehicles are not allowed in the zoo. Instead it can be parked in zoo parking place.
The vehicle parking charges are as:

1.Cycle / Cycle Rikshaw : Rs. 2.00 (Two only)
2.Car / Van : Rs. 15.00 (Fifteen only)
3.Other Two / Three wheeler vehicles : Rs. 5.00 (Fifty only)
4.Bus / Lorry : Rs. 50.00 (Fifty only)

 :: Facility of Battery vehicles and road trains

For the children and the aged persons facility of  Battery operated Road train is available for going around  in the zoo.
The tickets for the road train is available during the zoo  timings from the Battery operated vehicle ticket counter  inside the zoo. The rates are as:

Road Train (Adult) : Rs. 12.00 (Twelve only )
               (Children) : Rs. 7.00 (Seven only )

These road trains stop at specific places for visitors to get down and see the animals. The total trip inside the zoo is covered in approximately 1 hour.

 :: Lion Safari

The Lion Safari has been developed in an area of 30 hectares. The safari park has been opened to the public since October 1990.
The visitors can enjoy watching the lions at close quarters in the battery operated vehicles provided in the park. A 15 minute drive through the well laid roads into the safari in closed vehicle is a thrilling experience.
Tickets for the Lion safari is available at the Battery operated vehicle ticket counter inside the zoo. The rates are as:

Lion safari vehicles(Adult) : Rs. 12.00 (Twelve only )
                         (Children) : Rs. 7.00 (Seven only )
